About Us
Canterbury’s story begins in 1999, when the Asher family – Nancy, Jim and their daughter Kimberley — purchased what had been a dairy farm from the Burke family and designed and built a high-end, radiant-heated horse barn on the property. Canterbury Stables opened for lessons, boarding and training in August 2002.
Kimberley, now Canterbury’s head trainer, had her first riding lesson at age 4, under the supervision of her grandmother. She has since spent her life in the horse business. At 13, she kept her horse at Sag Pond Farm in Bridgehampton. As a junior rider, she worked there as a trainer and assistant barn manager. She also volunteered in the local therapeutic riding program.
At Randolph Macon Women’s College and SUNY Morrisville she competed on the IHSA hunt seat teams. At Morrisville she was hired as an adjunct professor before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in equine studies.
Kimberley competed on the A circuit in hunter, jumper, and equitation before moving to dressage, where she has earned her USDF gold medal, training her own horses, teaching students and competing through the Grand Prix level.
Head trainer Kimberley teaches hunt seat riding and both teaches and competes in dressage through Grand Prix
